BrainDamagedPride - Brain Injury Survivors Positively Proud of Who We Are!

We had a discussion at this morning´s Silverlining Charity On-line Coffee Morning for Brain Injury Survivors (Every Tuesday, 11am-12.30pm), running out of England, where the charity is based....
Fed up with discrimination and horrible treatment, highlighted from the start of the coffee morning, I was inspired to ask everyone, drawing on my experience of various liberation movements, the obvious question: isn't it time we took back control of the words so often used to insult us, and turned them round to something we are positively PROUD of, as other oppressed groups have!
To this end, I posted the following in the Zoom chat:
There’s been gay pride, disability pride, mad pride, autistic pride, neurodiversity pride, even. Based on what was said earlier, towards the beginning of this coffee morning, it may be time to create a Brain injury survivor pride (or, if we want to be provocative, even a brain damaged pride). It’s got a lot to do with reclaiming words which were originally often used as negatives, including insults, and turning them into positives…!
Well, guess what! We chose? To reclaim the words Brain damaged!
So, now we have Brain Damaged Pride!
As this post in the chat summed up:
Brain injury pride coming up. In English and in some other languages.
